Obituary for Athanasios "Dennis" Goutse
Athanasios “Dennis” Goutse peacefully passed away to sing with the angels on December 25, 2017 after a 5 month battle with Leukemia. He was born in Istanbul, Turkey on July 11, 1952 to parents Peter and Eleni Goutse. He moved to the United States with his mother at the age of 18. He was married for 45 wonderful years to his true love and best friend, Susan Veras Goutse. Dennis was a self-employed upholsterer for many years and then opened Dennis’ Deli on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, which he operated with his wife until he decided to retire. In addition to his work, Dennis embraced his Greek Orthodox faith and volunteered many hours at his parish, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, including singing during Sunday Liturgy.
Besides his wife, Dennis is survived by his wonderful children: Daughters Leah Brady & husband Bill and Stephanie Goutse, all of Stratford, CT; and son, Nick Baydar & wife Layla of Brown’s Mill, NJ. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: William & Athan Brady of Stratford, CT; and John & Andrew Baydar of Brown’s Mill, NJ; a brother, Dionisis Goutses & wife Tula and sister Barbara Galanopoulou & husband Kostas and their families – all in Athens, Greece; his beloved Uncle Vangeli & Aunt Ellie Koumbaros of Bridgeport, CT; his Mother in Law Katherine Veras of Trumbull, CT; Brothers in law – Andrew Veras of Bridgeport, CT; Greg Veras & wife Janet and George Veras & wife Kathie, all of Torrington, CT; and sister in law, Joanne Bull & husband Michael of Trumbull, CT; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for friends & family will be held at Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport, on Thursday, December 28th from 4pm-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4790 Park Avenue, Bridgeport on Friday, December 29th at 10am, followed by interment at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent’s Hospital Foundation, Swim Across the Sound, in memory of Dennis Goutse.
