Obituary for Asterios "Steve" Ftergiotis
Asterios (Steve) Ftergiotis age 70 of Monroe, beloved husband of 48 years to Kyriaki (Tsiripidis) Ftergiotis died peacefully on Friday November 24, 2017. Born in Katerini, Greece, he was the son of the late Nikolaos and Ekaterini (Zarotis) Ftergiotis. A Bridgeport - Monroe resident for over 48 years, he was the former co-proprietor of all the New Colony Diners as well as Captain’s Pizzas and more recently the owner of Southington Mini Diner. A kind and compassionate man with a heart of gold. An avid fisherman who enjoyed the company of his many friends who will miss his humor and camaraderie. Steve took great pride in his accomplishments as a restaurant owner and establishing several diners in the area. Steve was a loving man to his wife, children and grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who adored his laugher, generosity and loving heart. Steve also served as a marine in his native Greece.
Survivors in addition to his wife Kyriaki, are his three daughters Katerina Ftergiotis of Boston, Elaine and husband David Harter of Southbury, Nikoleta Ftergiotis of Monroe, two grandchildren Juliana and his namesake Steven, four sisters Elefteria Kastanaras of Easton, Stamatia (Toula) Michael of Fairfield, Eleni Ftergiotis of Bridgeport, Fani Loukrezi of Naugatuck and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law’s Vasilios Kastanaras, Theodore (Mike) Michael, Nikolaos Giotopulos, Antonios Loukrezis.
Calling hours will take place on Tuesday November 28, 2017 from 4 to 7pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport with Trisagion services at 5:30pm and The Rite of Burial will take place on Wednesday at 10am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave, Bridgeport with Fr. Georgios Livaditis Presbyter officiating followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Asterios.
