Obituary for Pedro J. "Peyo" Melendez
Pedro “Peyo” Melendez, age 88 of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 31, 2017. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico to the late Tomas and Dolores Diaz Melendez. He came to Bridgeport in 1940’s and has been a resident since. Pedro proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for many years for Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement. He was a board member of Marionville Inc., a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church, was an instructor for the Cursillo ministry, member of the Santo Nombre. He played baseball for Café Bustello Spanish League; a phenomenal dominoes player; an avid traveler, dancer and L.A. Lakers fan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Consuelo and children Jose, Sandra, Peter and wife Jeen, Robert, Michael and wife Denise. He leaves behind grandchildren Vaughn II, Jillian, Joseph, Juliana, Michael Jr., Mariah and Marcus, great-grandchildren Vaughn III, Sebastian, Mason, Sophia and Cameron, a sister Gloria Rivas of Atlanta, GA., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Maria Mestre. A special thanks to his brother-in-law Pedro Mestre for his daily visits and helping hand; to his home health aides Viclynn, Rosalie and CJ for their loving care during his convalescence.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday January 3, 2018 from 4 to 7pm at the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am in St. Mary’s Church, Bridgeport followed by interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford with full military honors.
